Limerick not at the races with vaccination centres

-

THIS country is turning into La La Land. On a daily basis, there appears to be no forward planning, or joined-up thinking between Government departments.

For example, the first vaccination centre opened in Limerick was in the Radisson hotel on the Ennis Road, well out of reach to people from the eastern end of the city, as regular bus services were not on this route.

It had a very poor public attendance at the start, and Army personnel were drafted in to assist.

Then the vaccination centre was suddenly moved to Limerick Racecourse, miles out into the countryside. Daft, I hear you say, and I agree, so a bus service was set up from the city centre.

Now it transpires this centre is to be shut on several dates in

June and July to facilitate horse racing. Whoa! Horses for courses and no vaccines for humans? But hold on, you can go to either Nenagh in Co. Tipperary or Ennis in Co. Clare on those closed days.

I believe discussions have been ongoing between interested parties and two city GAA pitches were offered, but refused, and all the while an Army barracks a short distance from the city bus and train station is the obvious place to house this vaccination centre.

It could only happen here, with case numbers rising rapidly in the past few weeks in the greater Limerick area and a very serious new strain raging in the UK. It’s farcical in the extreme.

Why can’t we ever do something right, just once?

Val Davis, Crosshaven, Co. Cork.
