Zuckerberg v Trump

-

IN your letters page last Sunday Pádraic Neary wants to know who Mark Zuckerberg thinks he is in banning Donald Trump from Facebook and this reminds me of a story doing the rounds a few years ago:

At the conclusion of a round of golf, Donald Trump called into the clubhouse for a meal and the conversation went as follows: TRUMP: ‘Hey, fella, I only got one bread roll here – gimme another.’

WAITER: ‘Sorry, sir, one bread roll only per customer.’

TRUMP: ‘Maybe you don’t know who you’re dealing with. Gimme another bread roll.’

WAITER: ‘Sorry, sir, strict instructions from the caterer. One bread roll only per customer.’ TRUMP: ‘Look, fella, I’m the president of the United States. I am the most powerful man in the world.’

WAITER: ‘Very good, sir. Do you know who I am?’

TRUMP: ‘No, who are you?’ WAITER: ‘I’m the man with the bread rolls.’

Mark Zuckerberg is the man with Facebook.

…WELL said by Pádraic Neary in asking ‘who the hell is this little prig Zuckerberg’ who has silenced for two years a democratically elected American president. What is equally appalling is the silence from the media. Where is the question of ‘who is next for silencing’? Where is the outcry over the power of one person, and an unelected one at that? What now about the claims of the right to free speech? At one time it was accepted that censorship was not to be tolerated. Now it seems it is perfectly justified when it suits the politically correct agenda.
