Interiors: Sofas for maximum lounging
Be inspired to find the perfect sofa to stretch out and relax
For Father’s Day, I could write about masculine interiors, or monochrome colour schemes devoid of colour. But I hesitate to paint the day with such broad strokes.
Instead, this is more of an ode to creating spaces that really suit lounging, which is high on the list of priorities for the father in residence at this house.
In honour of the dads who will hopefully get to lounge uninterrupted for a few hours today, let’s talk about the requisite elements for a perfect lounge spot.
First, the comfort of the sofa in question is absolutely paramount. What a dad needs after a long day of playing wrestle tag or shouting encouragement from the sidelines is a sofa that’s truly comfortable. Luckily, comfort and good design aren’t mutually exclusive, and strong contenders need to be adequately squishy while still looking like a piece of furniture that belongs in a grown-up’s house.
Second, the perfect sofa necessitates the ability to lounge in two directions — both sitting up and lying down. L-sofas come in particularly handy in ticking both these boxes; they offer ample room for spreading out or packing in friends if the occasion so requires.
And finally, cushions, but in moderation. Too many cushions require too much relocation in order to get comfortable in full lounge mode, but a few will always be welcome for added head support or to protect from an unexpected wrestle tag attack.
