‘My mother’s killing doesn’t feel real’

THE heartbroken son of a woman who was brutally stabbed to death on Christmas Eve has said he is ‘lost for words’ and his mother’s death ‘doesn’t feel real’.

A murder investigation is under way after the 42-year-old mother of five, named locally as Zeinat Bashabsheh, was brutally stabbed to death in her home in Enniskerry, Co. Wicklow, on Christmas Eve.

As he struggled to come to terms with his mother’s tragic loss, Adam Alzubi, 20, told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘I don’t even know what to say. I’m just lost for words… it doesn’t even feel real.’

Adam also set up a GoFundMe page as reality dawned yesterday that he and his brother Layth, 22, are now responsible for their three young sisters.

He wrote: ‘This is breaking my heart having to write this today. I lost my mother today. I haven’t lost anyone close to me before.

‘My mother was only 42 years of age, still had her life to live, but unfortunately she was stabbed to death on Christmas Eve. My mam was the most beautiful and amazing woman there was.’

Adam and older brother Layth, 22, now have to care for their three sisters Zara, 9, Saba, 8, and Balqees, 5, as they also cope with their mother’s tragic loss.

‘The three girls are going to have to be raised now by the two older brothers,’ Adam wrote.

‘I set up this fundraiser so that it could pay for her funeral. As little as €1 would help so much.’

Ms Bashabsheh was stabbed to death at her home in Enniskerry at around 4pm on Christmas Eve.

Emergency services were alerted to the house at Park na Sillogue Court, where the 42-year-old mother was discovered with serious injuries. A man also aged in his 40s is currently in Garda custody in relation to the attack and was being questioned at Bray Garda station last night.

The suspect is known to the victim and gardaí are not looking for anyone else in relation to the killing.
