DONOVAN ON THE DOUBLE IN TREATY TRIUMPH

LIMERICK enjoyed a 4-9 to 1-11 victory over visiting Longford at the Gaelic Grounds in Division 3 after netting three times in the opening period.

Goals from Cillian Fay and Brian Donovan (two) had the hosts 3-5 to 0-7 to the good at the break.

Longford’s Darragh Doherty raised a green flag on the restart before James Naughton scored the Munster side’s fourth.

Also in Division 3, a goal from Kevin Small set up Antrim for a convincing 1-14 to 0-8 win over Fermanagh

In the most remarkable result of the day, London returned to competitiv­e action for the first time in two years and recorded a 2-11 to 1-13 victory over hosts Carlow in Division 4. Liam Gavaghan and Bobby O’Regan netted for London who host Waterford next weekend.

Dublin’s hurlers claimed the Walsh Cup with a convincing 2-29 to 0-19 final win over Wexford at Croke Park.

Donal Burke registered 10 points for the Dubs with Fergal Whitely and Ronan Hayes supplying the goals.

Whitely’s goal on 24 minutes, after Aidan Mellett’s initial shot was blocked down, put the Leinster side in command Mattie Kenny’s side, who commence their Division 1 Group B campaign at home to Waterford next Sunday, were 2-14 to 0-9 ahead at the interval.
