Rise Of The Nazis: Dictators At War 9PM, BBC2 ★★★★★
Dictators rise to the top for a reason and the complicity of the people around them is a big part of that story. This new series about the war on the Eastern Front explores that arrogant strategic mistake from the perspectives of both Hitler (right) and Stalin, and digs into the psychologies of the leaders and their underlings. It’s an enlightening route through familiar territory, and the opening detail, about Hitler’s pilgrimage to Napoleon’s sarcophagus in conquered Paris in 1940, is a great starting point.
