9.35PM, RTé ONE
It has been 35 years since this 1980s pop culture icon Vincent Hanley (right) died. Broadcaster and gay activist Bill Hughes meets with Vincent’s friends and lovers who describe a man who was full of life, energy and big ideas. However, Vincent was firmly in the closet, and Bill meets with gay activist Cathal Kerrigan and journalist Una Mullaly who discuss the brutal reality of being gay in Ireland at that time. The documentary also explores the Irish government and media’s reaction to the Aids epidemic.
