IRISH actor Ruth Negga is preparing to make her Broadway debut with 007 Daniel Craig in a new adaptation of Macbeth. And the star of diverse hits such as Passing, World War Z and Love/Hate has won warm praise from Craig’s James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli, who is also behind the new stage production.

Broccoli said in a statement: ‘Daniel is not only a great film actor but a magnificent theatre actor as well. I am thrilled that he will be supporting the return of Broadway playing this iconic role with the exquisitely talented Ruth Negga making her Broadway debut.’

Billed ‘the theatrical event of the season’, Macbeth is directed by Tony award-winning director Sam Gold, whose credits include A Doll’s House, Part 2 and Fun Home, and will run for 15 weeks from the end of next month.

Mr Gold also had some gushing comments for Ruth Negga and Daniel Craig, right, saying, ‘I am beyond thrilled to be participating in this historic season as theatre re-emerges, and to be working with two such masterful actors on one of dramatic literature’s most challenging and epic dramas’. The latest take on the tragedy ‘will capture the passion and ferocity of Shakespeare’s most haunting text like never before’ according to press materials.

Ruth has won huge acclaim for her role in Passing which was released on Netflix late last year.
