We should make time to get it right

-

I SAT in to watch the Fitzgibbon Cup final and, like so many, was so disappointed with the red hard handed out to Cian Lynch, the Hurler of the Year being such an influential player with NUIG during the campaign.

Limerick let him off to play colleges hurling and he was superb. As was Bryan O’Mara and Ciaran Connolly for UL – that neither will be available to Tipperary is a blow.

Just when it looked like UL had thrown away a few chances and were going to be beaten, the game turned on the sending off of Lynch – a red card which replays showed to be nonsensical. I feel sorry for the referee because it was called by his linesman.

Given that referees are miked up now, why not take the time in this case to let someone look at a replay and have a quiet word. All it would have taken was a matter of seconds. When you do have the facility available with a live television replay, then use it.

Issuing a wrongful red card like that just isn’t good enough.
