Ousted by comrades, Kelly’s loss is no labour

-

I MET Alan Kelly only once and was compelled to recall that entirely forgettable experience this week with his purging by very close comrades in the Labour Party.

It was in Leinster House during Enda Kenny’s 2011 Coalition government, when Labour became more Blueshirt than the Blueshirts themselves.

Kelly dismissed my contention that small-town businesses throughout Ireland were shutting down in great numbers and more supports needed to be provided.

Not at all, said AK-47. I said to myself, ah here, God help them!

Clearly things have changed in the interim. He mightn’t have been in listening mode for me in the Dáil bar all those years ago, but there was nothing wrong with his hearing when party soulmates told him it was time for him to collect up his bits and pieces and, erm – close the door behind him.
