TOM’S PICK OF THE BUNCH DRINK OF THE WEEK
Sting in the tale When We Dance Chianti Tenuta Il Palagio 2018
€20, molloys.ie, 64Wine, Blackrock Cellar, Mitchell’s
A lovely, juicy, quite easydrinking Chianti from the estate owned by Sting and Trudie Styler (where they charge visitors to pick the grapes!) Good with pizza picante.
Ripe and round Graham Norton Shiraz 2019
€12.50, SuperValu
A pretty straightforward South Australian Shiraz but it’s big and packed with fruit, ripe and round and spicy. I’d favour a hamburger with this.
Big barossa bargain Barossa Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019
€13.50, Dunnes Stores
Intense blackcurrant, oodles of fruit but with grippy tannins, this is an antipodean bargain.
Decent grog Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz-Cabernet 2018
€18.50, Tesco
The entry level offering from Penfolds, it retains that oldfashioned Aussie style we found so seductive: cassis and eucalyptus.
Harmonious Tuscan Message in a Bottle Tenuta Il Palagio 2018
€25, molloys.ie 64Wine, Blackrock Cellar, Mitchell’s
A wine that combines Syrah and Sangiovese, very harmoniously.
