(Wednesday) Elvis Presley received his draft notice for military service one month before filming was set to begin. His enlistment was deferred for 60 days. Director Michael Curtiz had expected Presley to be conceited, but after working with him, concluded that he was a ‘lovely boy’. Presley described his character in the film (right) as his favourite of all he played on screen.
