SOME STATIONS INSIST ON PUMPING UP THEIR PROFITS

-

A SAMPLE survey of forecourt prices carried out by the Irish Mail on Sunday confirms some garages are failing to pass on reductions in crude oil costs to their customers.

Of six garages surveyed in Dublin, one Applegreen outlet stubbornly left the price of diesel at €1.89.8 and unleaded petrol at €1.79.8 from last week.

The other garages varied in the amounts they reduced at the pumps.

A Maxol garage was charging €1.87.9 for a litre of unleaded petrol on March 12. A week later, the price dropped to €1.82.9. Diesel at the same garage cost five cent less this week.

A second Maxol garage saw similar fluctuations.

Meanwhile, at a Campus outlet, unleaded petrol cost €1.79.9 last week and €1.72.9 this week, while the cost of diesel dropped from €1.89.9 to €1.77.90.

Over the same period, a Circle K station was selling diesel plus at €1.85.90 but then dropped the price to €1.83.90. Its unleaded petrol started at €1.75.90 before reducing to

€1.73.90 this week.
