Toro Albalá Marques de Poley Oloroso €13.95, O’Brien’s Possibly the best value wine in Ireland just now, but only if you’re into dry sherry. Not from Jerez but from Montilla-Moriles but made exactly the same way. Bone dry, nutty, intense.

Weingut Türk Im Grossen Berg Blau Zweigelt 2019 €20, whelehanswines.ie Think bramble fruit, blueberries, a touch of bay leaf and juicy, fresh acidity. Deliciously different.

Château Ksara Rèserve du Couvent 2019 €19.50, molloys.ie Equal quantities of Syrah (pepper, plums), Cabernet Franc (fragrance) and Cabernet Sauvignon (blackcurrants, tannin) in this Lebanese wine.

Filos Estate Assyrtiko 2020 €9.99, Aldi The native Greek Assyrtiko here is grown at high altitude to deliver real freshness and an alluring fragrance. Crisp, with a mineral backbone.

Dveri Pax 2019 €17.60, winesdirect.ie, Arnotts Lovely Slovenian white wine (at just 12% abv) made from Furmint, Pinot Grigio with a little Laski Riesling and just a touch of Traminer.
