TYPES OF WEIGHT-LOSS SURGERY
GASTRIC BAND
A silicone band is fitted around the upper part of your stomach and attached by a tube to a small access port under the skin of your abdomen. Your doctor can adjust the band’s tightness through this port.
GASTRIC BYPASS
This surgery reduces the size of your upper stomach to a pouch about the size of an egg. The surgeon attaches this pouch directly to part of the small intestine so food bypasses the rest of the stomach and the upper intestine.
GASTRIC BALLOON
A saline-filled silicone balloon is placed in your stomach, limiting how much you can eat and making you feel fuller faster. Like other weight-loss procedures, it requires a commitment to a healthier lifestyle.
GASTRIC PLICATION
This is a newer, minimally invasive weight-loss surgery in which the stomach is folded and stitched, reducing its capacity to approximately three ounces and restricting the amount of food it can hold.
