EVERYONE FOR CROCHET

The style creations beloved of festival-goers and bohemia has taken a sophisticated twist to become summer’s It Knit

- COMPILED BY Corina Gaffey

If you’ve been following the Coachella style sightings, your Instagram feed might have been inundated with the festival set decked out in crochet.

The laid-back fabric goes handin-hand with festival season, but crochet is trying to shake off its festival-only status this season. Instead, designers have spun some crochet creations this spring that doesn’t lean too heavily into bohemia but are rather more on the contemporary, sophisticated, silhouetted side. Think belted cardigans that could easily pair with smart trousers, jeans or wide-leg trousers that look chic over a swimsuit for holidays and take you from the beach to the bar. Colours come muted in creams, tans and monochromes, which is perfect if you are more of the neutral persuasion and prefer an easy-to-wear colour palette.

On the other end of the spectrum, some designers stayed true to the technicolour feel of crochet, opting for bright and bold knitted designs that feel fresh when worn for the city and not the festival field.

Crochet is perfect for an Irish summer, providing ventilation when it’s warm thanks to its stylish eyelets.

A cosy cardigan in crochet will also keep the chill at bay for those less-than balmy summer evenings. Or opt for a crochet vest that you layer-up with summer dresses to keep warm. Take a style cue from the Etro runways and opt for an all-in-one chic crocheted dress. Style it with trainers for the day, and throw it over a swimsuit and sandals for easy, breezy holiday dressing.

If you want to stay on top of the most stylish looks, pick up a crochet top and style it with faded denim or coordinating crochet trousers. According to New

Look and Pinterest, crochet tops are reigning supreme. Data to determine the hottest trends for summer show crochet tops lead the list with 316,148 pins saved.
