It’s time for fresh blood at the Gate

-

Selina Cartmell’s five-year contract at the Gate Theatre expired last autumn, although almost two years of it were seriously disrupted by the Covid shutdown. She will remain in situ until July 20 when new artistic director Róisín McBrinn and executive director Colm O’Callaghan take over.

McBrinn, in the past seven years, has worked as artistic director and later chief executive at London’s Clean Break Theatre – founded 40 years ago by two female prisoners – which specialises in the theme of women and crime. She also has plenty of experience in other British venues and directed the Gate production of The Snapper in 2018.

O’Callaghan, meanwhile, has had considerable experience in Australian companies and previously worked in Ireland with Landmark Theatre and Druid.
