Shelbourne in sizzling form as they see off Dublin rivals

- By Aoife English

CHAMPIONS Shelbourne had too much firepower for Bohemians and their class really told in the second period of this National League clash when they cruised to a 3-0 victory.

Shels were 1-0 up at the interval courtesy of Saoirse Noonan’s clever strike on 29 minutes while Jess Ziu doubled the advantage on the restart from a Keeva Keenan long throw before Noelle Murray added the finishing touch for the league leaders.

Jess Lawton’s first game in interim charge of Cork City ended in a 2-1 defeat as Emma Walkler netted the winner for Wexford by heading home from Ciara

Rossiter’s accurate centre.

It was 0-0 at the break and Wexford looked to be assuming control when Ellen Molloy scored from a free-kick but Cork battled back to level through Becky Cassin before Walker had the final say.

DLR Waves edged a 3-2 victory over Sligo Rovers at the UCD Bowl despite falling behind in the early stages to a Gemma McGuinness goal.

Waves got their noses in front with strikes either side of the break from Sophie Watters and Avril Brierley while Kate Mooney

snatched their winner after Sligo’s Emma Doherty had restored parity with a fierce drive.

Treaty United remain winless this season, going down 3-0 to hosts Galway WFC and the visitors’ woes were compounded when Amy Madden picked up a serious injury in the early exchanges.

Jenna Slattery (two) and Shauna Brennan provided the goals for Alan Murphy’s side as they continue to make progress.

Athlone Town made it five wins on the bounce by overcoming hosts Peamount on a 1-0 scoreline.

Stephanie Roche and Jetta Berrill went close for Peamount in the

opening stages, but Athlone took the lead on 21 minutes when Muireann Devaney set up Emily Corbett to score her ninth goal of the season. Áine O’Gorman had a super opportunity to equalise on the half hour mark but dragged her shot wide of the post.
