Wrexham want big climax

-

STOCKPORT COUNTY hope to prevent a Hollywood ending to Wrexham’s season.

The Hatters head into the final game of the English National League season top of the table and needing just a point from their home clash against fourth-placed Halifax Town to secure the title.

Wrexham sit in second place ahead of their trip to Dagenham & Redbridge as they look for a dramatic finish for their owners, actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

‘That Hollywood ending is definitely not what we want,’ said Stockport winger OIlie Crankshaw. ‘We want to be lifting the trophy. We don’t go into any game trying to draw. We go in to win and this one is no different.’ Crankshaw signed from Bradford in January and has scored 11 goals to help take Stockport to the brink of glory and a return to the Football League for the first time since 2011.

‘It would be massive. Everyone’s plan was to get this sleeping giant of a club back into the Football League where it belongs.’

It’s not just Stockport who feel that way. Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson also believes his side belong in the Football League and insists he has not felt any extra pressure from the A-list owners.

‘Have they put me under pressure? No,’ said Parkinson.

‘There’s nervousness, excitement, but also belief. This club represents the whole of North Wales, there’s so much potential here and from day one I’ve really enjoyed being here and I’m relishing the challenges ahead. The owners have been great. When I spoke to Rob after the Stockport game, he just said, ‘anything you need from us this week, just don’t hesitate to let us know.’
