HOW THEY RATED

- By Sami Mokbel

Could really not have asked much more from his team, who looked most likely to snatch it towards the end. Fine margins CHELSEA 3-4-3 0 1

MENDY 8 Produced big saves as Liverpool threatened, none bigger than his penalty stop from Mane.

CHALOBAH 6 Had no answer to Luis Diaz’s threat during the first half, but slowly gained a foothold.

THIAGO SILVA 7.5 The evergreen Brazilian breezed through this final. Been there, seen it, done it and it showed.

RUDIGER 7.5 His Chelsea career will soon end but there was plenty of commitment from the defender.

JAMES 6.5 Needed to support Chalobah more at the start but eventually gave a disciplined display.

KOVACIC 7 Miracle recovery from injury to start and, apart from one nearly costly error, was excellent.

JORGINHO 7.5 Guile and experience key in quelling the early pressure. As Chelsea settled, he pulled strings.

ALONSO 7 An unlikely goal threat who missed two golden opportunities before his free-kick rattled the bar.

PULISIC 6.5 Missed an excellent chance and blew hot and cold. Sporadically, caused some problems.

LUKAKU 6.5 A surprise selection who didn’t justify his boss’s faith. Provided physical presence, but little else.

MOUNT 6.5 Put in hard yards off the ball but it’ll take him all summer to get over that penalty miss.

SUBSTITUTES

Kante 7 (Kovacic 66min), Ziyech 6.5 (Lukaku 85), Azpilicueta (Chalobah 106), Loftus-Cheek (Pulisic 106), Barkley (Loftus-Cheek 119).

Subs not used: Kepa, Werner, Saul. THOMAS TUCHEL 7 Could really not have asked much more from his team, who looked more likely to snatch it towards the end. Fine margins. Referee: Craig Pawson 7. LIVERPOOL 4-3-3 0 0

ALISSON 8 Two excellent saves to deny Alonso and Mount before his stop in the shoot-out set up victory.

ALEXANDER-ARNOLD 7 Produced the pass of the match to Diaz in the first half. Diligent in defence and a threat in attack.

KONATE 7.5 Nullified Lukaku and stood up to the physical demands of playing against the Belgian.

VAN DIJK 7 Played with a cigar on until Chelsea grew into proceedings later on. Worryingly substituted.

ROBERTSON 7 Klopp will be relieved to have him fit again. A trademark all-action display down the left.

KEITA 6 Kept things moving in the centre without really taking the game by the scruff of the neck.

HENDERSON 6.5 Added solidity in midfield and was most vital in the closing stages as Chelsea sensed victory.

THIAGO 8 Poetic in possession. Sees passes so early and executes with chilling accuracy.

SALAH 5.5 Limped off, worryingly, in the first half. Hopefully nothing too sinister with more glory to play for.

MANE 6.5 A frustrating afternoon for the Senegal forward as his team-mates struggled to supply him.

DIAZ 8.5 Unplayable. Vital already, Chelsea could not cope with him. A global star in the making.

SUBSTITUTES

Jota 6.5 (Salah 33min), Milner 6.5 (Keita 74), Matip 6.5 (Van Dijk 90), Firmino 6 (Diaz 98), Tsimikas (Robertson 111).

Subs not used: Kelleher, Gomez, Jones, Origi. JURGEN KLOPP 7.5 The German and his team continue to find a way to win. Two down, two more to play for. History beckons for this Liverpool side. Attendance: 84,897.
