Minister honours gardaí who were killed in the line of duty
JUSTICE MINISTER Helen McEntee yesterday paid tribute to gardaí killed in the line of duty and their families, saying their service is a ‘debt we can never fully repay’.
Ms McEntee and Garda Commissioner Drew Harris were among those addressing the annual ceremony, held in Dubh Linn Garden at Dublin Castle yesterday.
Minister McEntee said the deaths of the 89 officers were ‘lives that ended far, far too soon’.
‘These gardaí died in the service of the State and that is a debt that we can never fully repay but one that we want to remember and, indeed, one that we must remember,’ the minister added.
