NINTIES smash-hit C’est La

Vie has B*Witched ‘a new generation of fans’, according to one of the Irish girlband’s members after it featured in a new Rebel Wilson movie that topped the Netflix charts. Sinéad O’Carroll, 49, said she has been overwhelmed by the love for the song.

The track’s second coming reflects the film’s plot, with Wilson’s character, 37-year-old Stephanie, returning to the high school she attended in the noughties after waking up from a 20-year coma.

Sinéad told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘Since [C’est La Vie] appeared on the end credits of Senior Year it is showing really strong performance across Spotify, Apple Music, Shazam and there has been an uplift in streams in the US.’

The movie is piled high with Nineties and noughties nostalgia, with Stephanie’s bedroom decked out with polaroids and Britney Spears posters.

Sinéad said the band, which includes twin sisters Edele and Keavy Lynch and Lindsay Armaou, has won over a wave of new followers since the film came out, as well as getting lots of messages from fans. She added the fact an American movie wanted to use the song is a reminder of how big it got in the US, reaching No.9 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1999.

The band’s debut track topped the charts in Ireland when it was released in 1998 and hit No.1 in the UK charts. Sinéad said B*Witched never dreamed their Irish folkpop crossover would become a classic.

The band is back gigging after taking a break during Covid and Sinéad revealed that they have been busy since their reunion 10 years ago. She added: ‘If I thought 25 years ago, I’d be still on stage in a pair of heels jumping around – I wouldn’t bet on it. We always leave C’est La Vie to the last song in our set, and the crowd still goes wild for it!’ This month marks 24 years since C’est La Vie went on sale.

And Sinéad promised fans that there will be something big to mark 25 years of B*Witched in 2023, revealing, ‘We’re putting a plan together!’
