Wooden soled shoes have finally made it from catw JOIN THE CLEVER CLOGS

From dad sandals to Crocs and now clogs, the trend for ugly shoes isn’t going away.

Ugly shoes refer to deliberately unattractive footwear, but are adopted by the fashion set to bring something different to an outfit and stand out from the crowd. Hence the popularity of clogs clomping their way to the high street.

In a post-pandemic world where we favour comfort over anything else, is it any wonder that the comfy clog has become the hottest shoe for the summer?

But it’s not just the high street stores heralding the clog as a must-have for the warm weather season. Clogs have been given a high-fashion, luxe makeover and have marched along the catwalks of Ganni, Gucci and Isabel Marant.

Before you think the clog is just a flash fashion trend destined to return to the depths of your wardrobe quicker than you can say clever clogs, their resurgence hasn’t just started with this season. It’s been bubbling under the fashion sphere for a couple of seasons now. Dior opted for the Dutch classic in 2018, and since then major fashion houses like Miu Miu, Chanel and Hermes have followed suit, introducing clogs into their collections.

Rather than being styled with a retro influence, the catwalks have dictated clogs be paired with chic midi dresses and relaxed tailoring. The fashion set also adopted the pared-back, sleek aesthetic for their clog ensembles at fashion week.

They choose to pair the wooden-soled shoes with everything from a simple t-shirt and trouser outfit to elegant leather midi and knitted dresses.

There’s also a variety of clog styles to choose from. Take your pick from open-toe or closed, embellished or plain, high or low.

Opting for a neutral shade will, of course, maximise the versatility of the clog and increase the ease of pairing with multiple outfits.

A black-hued clog is a smart option as you could take it into autumn when styled with jeans and an oversized blazer.

Brown is a classic clog combo and looks apt when paired with breezy broderie anglaise dresses and cool crochet for the summer months.
