An expert take on autumn’s hottest hair colour trends

-

Hair colour trends change each season, and a new tone or hue always pops up to give an edge for a blonde, brunette, or greyhaired look. Along with a fresh cut, it’s the fastest way to transform your look. A change is as good as a rest they say, so why not start planning now?

So, what is headed our way for the autumn and winter months? Will we be tempted to be more dramatic with our colour choices?

To find out the hottest hair colour trends,

Magazine has spoken with the colour experts at Wella. Of the predicted trends for blondes and brunettes, the new tones for the colder months reflect the change in weather — and the current indications are that everything will look more mellow and richer.

We spoke with Wella Professionals digital craft expert Jordanna Cobella, a salon owner who worked with the haircare and colour brand to decide on next season’s hottest hair colour trends.

For blondes, Jordanna is tipping Tweed Blonde as a major shift away from bright blonde and solid colour. ‘For autumn/winter 2022, I’m noticing more clients embracing a neutral, natural blonde, with cool and warm tones finely woven together to create this harmonious blonde look. This multi-dimensional look imitates how light would reflect on natural hair, creating a sun-kissed look,’ says Jordanna.

Golden Hour blonde is another of the hair colour trends headed our way, and Jordanna explains the reasoning behind this. ‘After

periods of uncertainty, people tend to embrace warmer, richer tones that are nourishing and optimistic,’ she says. ‘We’re seeing this trend transfer across to hair, with clients embracing warm, golden honeycomb tones post-pandemic.

‘The beige blonde trend has embraced a warmer palette with highs and lows of nude, beige, and sandy tones. These warmer tones tend to reflect light more than ashier hues, so will help the appearance of shine on the hair,’ she adds.

Brunettes can look forward to an autumn of rich and glossy locks, according to Jordanna. ‘Shades of brown dominated A/W22 Fashion Week. Designers such as Chloe, Chanel and Acne displayed the versatility and richness of this hue. The comforting nature of the shade makes it incredibly popular. Bronzed Wood is a mixture of subtle caramel hues with darker neutral tones running throughout the hair. Muted multi-dimensional hues add depth and movement to the hair,’ she says.

‘Brunettes will see an autumnal refresh, with calming dark olive and violet tones added to remove any warmth and add depth and a pop of unexpected colour,’ she adds.

‘Glazed Olive Brunette looks best when the hair has a luxurious shine. Wella Professionals Oil Reflections Luminous Oil (€20.95) will add a mirror-like shine to the hair with long-lasting hydration and moisture.’

Autumn’s hottest hair colour trends are looking very fresh — we look forward to trying one.
