Nina takes the reins on new reality show

-

LEGENDARY jockey Nina Carberry has revealed how her retirement from horse racing has enabled her spread her career wings, spend quality time with her family... and to be able to eat all the chocolate she wants.

Nina has spent her entire life in the saddle and romped home to win her first Cheltenham Festival in 2005.

But she admitted staying the course as a hunt jockey came at a cost.

She told the Irish Mail on Sunday: ‘I definitely don’t miss the travelling part

of racing. To be honest, the travel was the first thing that stopped me from continuing competing.’

Following her triumph on last season’s Dancing with the Stars, Nina decided to foray further into the realm of reality television and has been unveiled as the newest addition to RTÉ’s hit show, Ireland’s Fittest Family.

As for how she sees her role as coach, she says: ‘You don’t necessarily have to be a big robust family. Mental strength and agility can count for a lot in competition and staying the course.’

Despite her retirement, Nina has maintained her fitness regime – although now she is able to indulge in another great passion.

‘I do be out running the roads at 6am every morning and it’s really great to see so many other people out keeping fit. I am also a lifelong chocoholic so it’s great that I can eat as much chocolate as I like.’
