EDDIE HOWE insists Newcastle haven’t paid over the odds for £60million record signing Alexander Isak.
The arrival of the Swedish international striker – who could make his debut at Wolves today – takes Newcastle’s spending this calendar year to almost £250m.
Howe insists Newcastle cannot afford to stand still, even if it means shelling out large fees for players. ‘Our spending sounds a lot of money,’ he admitted.
‘I definitely feel a responsibility when it comes to the price of the players we sign, and certainly it wouldn’t be a case of signing a player at any cost.
‘When you look at the market, I think Alex is a good deal for us, otherwise I wouldn’t have pushed hard to do it.’
