Parker fears more routs

- By Dominic King

SCOTT PARKER described Bournemouth’s Anfield drubbing as the toughest day of his career — but fears there will be more to come this season without new signings.

Bournemouth’s manager looked haunted as Liverpool ran amok and the impact of what he witnessed had not subsided as he faced questions about the manner of his team’s performance.

Parker has made additions during the window but the make-up of his squad is effectively Championship standard and if things do not improve before the window closes, he is worried there will be more afternoons like this.

He said: ‘It is pretty shell-shocking in terms of the result. The quality (of Liverpool) was far greater in terms of what we have. We can’t be making an excuse.

‘There were some goals that were of our own doing. Some of the setplay goals were really poor, I feel sorry for the fans, sorry for the players.

‘We are just a bit under-equipped from where we have come from.

‘There are players in this team of huge quality but the levels of what they have gone up to, it is the first time they are experiencing this league. We are where we are. While I never thought we could come here and get beat 9-0, I expected this season would be a real challenge for us in certain moments and games. It is a young team at this level.’

He added: ‘This is the toughest day I have had, as a player and certainly as a coach.’
