Blues and Treaty ease into last eight

- By Barry Arnold

WATERFORD FC and Treaty United booked their spots in the Extra.ie FAI

Cup quarter-finals with comfortable wins yesterday.

The two First Division sides saw off Leinster

Senior League opponents.

Waterford made light work of Malahide United in a 6-0 win, while Treaty saw off Maynooth University Town to join a host of Premier Division sides in the last eight.

The Blues raced into a 4-0 lead after half an hour following goals from Shane Griffin, Roland Idowu, Wassim Aouachria and a Phoenix Patterson free kick.

Last season’s semi-finalists scored their fifth in the 78th minute after Darragh

Power fired home from close range following a corner.

Aouachria netted his second in added time at Gannon Park in north Dublin.

It wasn’t quite as straightforward for Treaty United against Maynooth University Town – who reached the quarter-finals last season – but their class eventually showed.

The Limerick outfit took the lead through Enda Curran after half an hour and had a chance to double the lead after Maynooth conceded a penalty, but Curran saw his spot-kick saved by Shane Fagan.

However, the Limerick side put the game to bed with 10 minutes to go after substitute William Armshaw and Lee Devitt both netted.
