Hung over? Coddle yourself with potato milk!

- By Molly Clayton

THE milk shelves are packed these days with products made from everything from oats to soy to rice.

But a new competitor is set to shake up the market – milk made from spuds. What’s more, it’s claimed it can cure hangovers and stop you going grey.

Potato milk – similar to the likes of oat milk – is rich in an enzyme that helps to break down alcohol in the brain. A few swigs will counter the after-effects of alcohol within 30 minutes, claims Richard H Davis, boss of the US company making the milk called Tatorade

Mr Davis says the enzyme, catalase, is also thought to stop booze cravings, and he insists it may even help potato milk drinkers look more youthful.

Recent scientific studies suggest low catalase levels could be a factor in the greying process, he says.

Tatorade will go on sale within months, adds Mr Davis. He says studies on rats showed catalase sharply reduced the amount of alcohol in their blood.

‘Catalase is what metabolises alcohol in the brain,’ Mr Davis says. ‘Ingestion of catalase can also help to reduce naturally occurring hypoglycaemic alcohol cravings.’

Potato milk is low in sugar and free of lactose, soy, gluten and nuts. Production uses half as much land as oat milk and 56% less water than almond milk. Converts include actress Drew Barrymore, who says the drink’s low carbon footprint means she will be a ‘drinker for life’.

The claim that Tatorade helps to cure hangovers is undergoing clinical trials in Idaho.
