Joely a fan of sex-scene safety
SHE set pulses racing in the early 1990s with steamy scenes in the screen version of D. H. Lawrence’s Lady Chatterley’s Lover – long before the trend for ‘intimacy co-ordinators’ on film sets.
Now, as she returns in a Netflix reboot of the classic, Joely Richardson says she backs their use on film and TV sets these days to protect the actresses appearing in sex scenes.
Ms Richardson, playing Lady Chatterley, was seen cavorting with Sean Bean, as gamekeeper Mellors, both pictured, in the 1993 BBC series. Bean has suggested that intimacy co-ordinators ‘spoil the spontaneity’ of sex scenes, but in an interview with
You magazine, Ms Richardson, pictured, says she’s ‘really glad for this generation that there are systems in place to protect’ actresses.
She adds: ‘I can’t say it was abusive back in the day in my case, though there were personality clashes. But I did love Ken
[Russell, the director]. He was mad, brilliant and chaotic.’
