DIGNITY IN DEATH IS A KEY CONCERN

THOSE in charge of healthcare settings have a great duty of care to ensure the safety of staff and patients alike. Surely at this stage of the fight against Covid, though, there is a more appropriat­e and considerat­e way to facilitate grief.

Today, we highlight the fact that many hospitals are refusing access for children wishing to say a final goodbye to grandparen­ts in palliative care.

You would think we had learned from the darkest days of Covid that dignity in death, not just for those who have passed away but also for the families left behind, is a key concern. Over-arching bureaucrac­y must not be allowed continue to stand in the way of people’s grief.
