PICK OF THE DAY

STAR RATINGS ★★★★★ Brilliant ★★★★ Very good ★★★ Good ★★ Average ★ Rubbish

-

The Handmaid’s Tale 10.35PM, RTÉ2 ★★★★

Margaret Atwood’s novel about a future in which fertile women are forced to bear children for the ruling classes is hugely powerful but also relatively short – this gripping TV adaptation got through the plot in the first season. So that means that viewers can start the fifth season with no idea what is going to happen next. What we do know is that after the last series ended with June (Elisabeth Moss, right) getting rid of Commander Waterford, she’s now searching for her daughter, while Gilead’s influence is creeping into Canada.

Neven’s Portuguese Food Trails 8.30PM, RTÉ ONE ★★★

Neven Maguire visits the Alentejo region in southern Portugal, where he finds out the unusual way of making wine practised at the Ervideira Winery. He also talks to artisan cheesemaker Joana Garcia.

Nadiya’s Everyday Baking 8.30PM, BBC2 ★★★

Nadiya Hussain offers up her favourite go-to roasts, including lamb ribs for the perfect family feast. She also transforms the humble onion into the star of a mouthwatering vegetarian curry.

Grand Designs 9PM, CH4 ★★★

Kevin McCloud meets Zimbabwean-born Davi and Matt from Australia, who are determined to create a home to reflect their backgrounds, so set out to build a house in the UK’s Chess Valley with a radical multicultural design.
