New plan for party laid out in document

- By Dolly Busby

THE document looking at the future of Fianna Fáil sets out 12 areas that need attention if the party is to stay relevant. Much of the focus is on building an inclusive, equal and democratic Ireland. Under the heading ‘A Home for All’, the document states that the party should ‘champion the right to housing by providing quality, affordable public and private homes’.

Universal healthcare is listed as another major goal while, under the heading Unity, the party is encouraged to unite all people in Ireland and ‘harness the potential of the Good Friday Agreement and build consensus around a shared Ireland’.

Promoting excellence and sustainable livelihoods in the arts is another goal, as is making education accessible ‘for all’ adding that it must ‘cherish children and

promote inclusivity and equality in opportunity’.

The document said enterprise and innovation should be encouraged and that a Fianna Fáil government must value aspiration and initiative. Sustainable opportunities for the rural, farming and maritime sectors are also priorities – to ensure ‘energy independence and food security’.

Under ‘Climate Action & Biodiversity’ the party is encouraged to embrace ‘renewable energy and end the use of fossil fuels via a just transition to a sustainable society and circular economy’.
