There was much fanfare
over the fact that there are now more Catholics than Protestants in the North for the first time in its history, according to the latest census.
Some have welcomed the news as a sign that a united Ireland is inevitable. However, a more significant figure is that only 29% identify as Irish. That’s admittedly up from 25% in the 2011 census but it’s a long way from a majority.
There’s still a lot of work to do in this part of the island if we want to make it attractive to a majority of northerners.
They know enough about us not to expect fair and honest treatment in the ‘Rip-Off Republic’.
