DARLINGS, JUST GIVE ME A HAND SPRAYING ON THIS NEW DRESS!
FOR the woman who struggles to find a dress that fits perfectly for that special day out, there’s a new solution – spray one on.
The revelation came at Paris Fashion Week, courtesy of supermodel Bella Hadid.
The 25-year-old drew gasps as she shimmied on to the catwalk on Friday wearing a skimpy fleshcoloured thong, a pair of white kitten heels – and very little else.
Then, as the fascinated audience watched, four designers got to work, spraying her with Fabrican – liquid latex fibres that solidify into fabric – to create a show-stopping, body-hugging gown.
It took the team from fashion house Coperni about ten minutes to apply the fibres with spray guns, before styling the frock by cutting a thigh slit into one side of the skirt and pulling the sleeves off Ms Hadid’s shoulders to give it a ‘Bardot’ look. The model then completed her walk down the runway – with members of the audience desperately trying to get a photo of the moment on their mobile phones. Yesterday the dress was hailed as a ‘magical miracle’ by fashion commentators, who watched the show at the Salle des Textiles at the Musee des Arts et Metiers.
The Los Angeles-based supermodel also had nothing but praise for the gown, which she shared with her 55million Instagram followers. Alongside a picture of her on the catwalk, she wrote: ‘None of this could happen without the passion, hard work and dedication of the entire Coperni team. I love you. I will think of this moment for ever.’
Fabrican, which creates seamless outfits from a spray and costs about £15 a can, is based at the London BioScience Innovation Centre.
Coperni, a French label created by Sebastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant, are also the company behind the Swipe ‘It’ bag made of handblown glass, loved by celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Doja Cat.
