Dapper Macca the day tipper... and 50 years on, he still looks fab in a double-breasted suit

- By Ronan O’Reilly

IT WAS a fab style when he wore it way back in 1971 – and Paul McCartney rolled back the years this week as, looking dapper in a dark blue doublebreasted ensemble, he went out to lunch.

And just as he also did back in the 1970s, Macca sported a full beard – although as he’s now 80, it wasn’t quite so lush and was of a rather more vintage hue.

He was spotted at Claridge’s in London’s Mayfair, where he was joined by his 53-year-old photographer daughter Mary.

With an estimated fortune of £865m, McCartney is the UK’s wealthiest musician by quite some distance – and is reputed to be extremely careful with his finances. And he clearly likes to have some of it with him, as he was seen clutching a large wad of cash, and slipping a note to one of the Claridge’s doormen as a tip.

Paul teamed his smart suit with a trendy pair of navy and black trainers by LA-based designer James Perse.

One bystander said: ‘He looks great for a man of his age. But it’s good to see that he has stopped colouring his hair in that alarming shade of chestnut – it made him look faintly ridiculous.’

Well, he did once sing Live And Let Dye…
