❱ The world record for the furthest axe throw was broken in July by an Alaskan native, who threw 27 metres.

❱ One of the oldest tools used by mankind, the axe was created in the Stone Age around 30,000BC and copper blade axes appeared in Egypt around 4,000BC.

❱ The first axe throwing competitio­ns were held by frontiersm­en in North America and among Celtic tribes.
