Spice, pepper, cherries
Specially Selected Châteauneufdu-Pape 2019 Aldi Masses of fruit wrapped in swathes around a core of sound tannins making it an excellent food wine. A bargain.
A lick of liquorice
Tesco Finest Châteauneufdu-Pape 2017 Tesco Keenly priced, it has plenty of fruit plus a lick of dark liquorice and a whiff of the garrigue. Surprisingly complex at this price.
Youth and age
Domaine de la Solitude Châteauneufdu-Pape Rouge 2020 Sweeney’s, Martin’s, Redmond’s, Deveney’s, Jus de Vine A combination of intensity and freshness.
Lengthy stuff Clos des Papes Châteauneufdu-Pape 2014
Baggot Street Wines Stunning, as you would expect, and quite forward in its relative youth but this is an impeccably balanced classic.
