Stoker’s relative gets his teeth into Dracula’s legacy
ONE of the sole living descendants of Dracula author Bram Stoker will participate in a re-enactment of the only interview his famous ancestor gave about his legendary novel.
Dacre Stoker, 64, Bram’s greatgrandnephew, will explore the legacy of the book at a special event to mark the 125th anniversary of the publication of Dracula. The Canadian-American is the author of the 2009 sequel to the classic, Dracula The Un-Dead, which he wrote with Ian Holt. Mr Stoker will perform alongside actors at the Stoker On Stoker event, which is part of the Bram Stoker Festival which takes place over the October Bank Holiday weekend in Dublin.
Mr Stoker told the MoS: ‘I can speak for the entire Stoker family when I say that we are thrilled to see the ongoing success of the Bram
Stoker Festival over the past 10 years in Dublin. ‘I think Bram would be very proud that I share the story of his life, his research and writing of Dracula on stage in Dublin.’ More than 40,000 people are expected to attend the festival, which includes film screenings and walking tours. An art installation, designed to mimic the Northern Lights, will be hosted
in the Upper Courtyard at Dublin Castle, where Stoker worked.
Stokerland, based in St Patrick’s Park, will host a number of family-friendly activities and food stalls over the Halloween bank holiday weekend. There will also be special screenings in the Pepper Canister Church of Nosferatu, the controversial first ever onscreen adaptation of Dracula, accompanied by a live performance of a new score composed by Matthew Nolan.
The adaptation, which was not authorised by Stoker, was at the centre of a legal battle with the author’s wife, Florence. For more info on the festival see bramstokerfestival.com.
