SWITZERLAND yesterday set the world record for the longest passenger train journey to celebrate 175 years of railways in the country.
The Rhaetian Railway train was almost 2km long and had 4,550 seats spread across 100 coaches. It travelled along the 25km UNESCO World Heritage route in Graubünden yesterday afternoon, which is regarded as one of the world’s most spectacular train routes with its sweeping Alpine views.
Rhaetian Railway chief Renato Fasciati credited his team and all the helpers with the success of the experiment.
Now the 46-minute journey is complete, the train will be dismantled into separate parts and used for regular traffic.
