Conte: I nearly had a heart attack!
ANTONIO CONTE said he feared he would have a heart attack if he waited on the touchline to see if VAR would deny Tottenham another stoppage-time winner in the space of four days.
Conte’s reaction to Rodrigo Bentancur’s goal was unusual, with the Spurs boss turning and storming down the tunnel at Bournemouth’s Vitality Stadium. Afterwards the Italian explained he waited there for word that Bentancur’s strike would stand without any intervention from Stockley Park, confirming Spurs’ comeback from 2-0 down to win 3-2.
It comes after Conte received a red card on Wednesday in the aftermath of VAR disallowing, for offside, what would have been a match-winning goal by Harry Kane against Sporting Lisbon. in the Champions League.
‘I came back when I knew that the goal was good,’ Conte said. ‘I said I can have a heart attack because in two games, two goals scored, to be disallowed… so I go down the tunnel.
‘I stay calm. I wait for the decision.’
