Traditional wake with an x-rated twist in this one-woman show...
The Viking Theatre upstairs at The Sheds in Dublin’s Clontarf has been back in business recently, and presents Wake, a one-woman show written and performed by Irene Kelleher. The traditional wake always treads an uncomfortable path between grim-faced sorrow and gaffes by people temporarily forgetting why everyone has gathered in the house. Condolences compete with praise for the dearly departed along with unsuitable anecdotes. While attenders eat and drink, the bereaved family has to worry about the number of people they have on board compared with their supplies of refreshments. The play is set in west Cork, and an old face from the past turns Lily, who is at her mother’s wake, from mourner into mover – escaping from her aunt and cousin and risking the neighbours’ disapproval by changing into her x-rated top. She has plans and mourning can’t get in the way. Booking 087 1129970, from tomorrow to November 19.
