‘CANCELO CALL WAS SPOT ON — HE DIDN’T GO FOR THE BALL!’

JOAO CANCELO can have no complaints about the penalty decision nor the red card, because he clearly pushes Fulham’s Harry Wilson and there is no possibility of him getting the ball. In my opinion it was absolutely the right decision.

Had there been an attempt to play the ball Cancelo would have been given a yellow card rather than red, but because there was no attempt he was rightly shown red for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

Referee Darren England could not have been better placed to make both decisions and both would have been checked by the VAR.
