THE WONDER IRISH-MADE DRAMA

Florence Pugh plays English nurse Lib Wright (far right, above), sent to 19th-century Ireland to observe the ‘miracle’ of an 11-year-old girl, Anna O’Donnell (Kila Lord Cassidy, second from left), who claims not to have eaten for four months. Instead, Anna says she is surviving on ‘manna from heaven’. Lib comes into conflict with the community after declaring Anna’s claim impossible.

The haunting drama is adapted from the 2016 novel

by Dublin-born writer Emma Donoghue. The Wonder was filmed in Ireland, and the magic of cinema means viewers won’t notice that Anna’s bleak farmhouse home was recreated in an aeroplane hangar in Dublin.
