Drugged Carla’s horror SMASH

- with JACI STEPHEN

CORONATION STREET

Where would the factory be without Stephen showing them all how business really needs to be done? Weatherfield’s answer to Giorgio Armani is clearly showing a great deal more business acumen than he ever managed in Milan, where all he appears to have picked up are some handy tips from the Mafia.

A few murders, fraud, forgery, theft – we’re watching The Godfather IV created before our eyes. Now, in a bid to wrestle control of the factory out of Carla’s hands,

Stephen acquires a couple of vials of LSD from Rufus when they meet at a hotel. That’s some stash; I’m grateful if I get a couple of hundred Marriott points and a chocolate on my pillow. When Rufus collapses after taking cocaine, Stephen has to think quickly if he’s going to convince Carla that he’s sealed the deal with him. Back at base, Stephen is once again humiliated when Carla appoints him to the job of Office Manager, while Sarah gets Head of Design (seriously? Donatella Versace she ain’t).

In a vengeful act, Stephen first spikes Carla’s coffee with LSD, closely followed by her red wine. She’s clearly out of it and Peter worries that her psychosis is returning, but there’s worse to come when Abi refuses to hand over her car keys and Carla takes the Underworld van, crashing into Paul and knocking him off Peter’s new motorbike.

In happier news – well, joyous, to be precise – Summer reveals that she’s had a conditional offer from Manchester University. Oh, please, please, give her the grades to be able to accept it. Maybe it’s still a little too close to home for us to be totally free of whatever major life problems the show has stored up for her next. Aberdeen would have been preferable. No such departure awaits Sean who, after wrongly accusing Laurence of having murdered his wife, is left pining (yet again) on the cobbles for a lost love. Shame. A trip to the Alps would have been nice. Being pushed off one would have been even nicer.
