Free gigs and events con­tinue to fill the sum­mer cal­en­dar, as it seems like the gods of the re­ces­sion have a spe­cial place in their hearts for pen­ni­less Ir­ish mu­sic fans.

The lat­est clutch of com­pli­men­tary events to take place around the coun­try in­cludes gigs in Cork and Gal­way, join­ing the pre­vi­ously-men­tioned JD Roots gig which takes place at the But­ton Fac­tory on May 18th and for which you can reg­is­ter now at jd­

Cork will host the Mur­phy’s-spon­sored Lit­tle Big Nights Out for the fourth year run­ning from May 4th to 6th. The first Lit­tle Big Week­end of the year (two more will fol­low in Au­gust and Novem­ber) will see five events take place at the city’s Beamish & Craw­ford site. The line-up in­cludes The Frank and Wal­ters and The Walls co-head­lin­ing a spe­cial “vox-swap” gig where they’ll trade vo­cal­ists and songs, as well as a Hu­man League gig and a con­tem­po­rary trad ses­sion on Sun­day af­ter­noon. Mean­while, Gal­way is get­ting in on the act with three days of free live gigs around the city un­der the Coors Light Live at the Latin Quar­ter ban­ner, also tak­ing place on the May Bank Hol­i­day week­end. Hot Chip’s Felix Martin, Kíla, Ham Sand­wich, Roy­seven and more will fea­ture.
