PICNICFARE

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - COVER STORY -

In honour of Kelis and her sauces, here are the Ticket’s five favourite food moments from Electric Picnics past .

A PIEMINISTER PIE

There is nothing better than a steaming hot chorizo or chicken pie to drive away the early autumn chills.

RATHMULLAN HOUSE CRAB LINGUINI

The Co Donegal restaurant and hotel overlooking Lough Swilly is coming down with plaudits, accolades, gold stars and brass plaques, but it’s a far different matter cooking in a field in Co Laois. Going on our time here over the last few years, they’ve got it spot-on. Here’s hoping that pasta dish is back on this year’s menu.

KINARA KITCHEN CHICKEN BIRYANI

One of the big winners for the Ticket’s team in Stradbally last year. Juicy chicken bites decked out in lip-smacking spices, a big bed of rice, a freshly baked naan bread and a tangy mango lassi to wash it all down.

WING BAR CHICKEN WINGS

Until the Elephant & Castle decides to skip Dublin 2 and hightail it to Stradbally, these finger-licking wings will have to do the trick. Long queues last year thanks to their “as recommended by The Ticket” tagline.

DAVE’S PIZZA PIZZA

If you happen to be producing a magazine in a shed in the middle of a field in the middle of Co Laois and are starving as the midnight deadline approaches, a wood fire pizza from this wee shack gets the thumbs-up.
