YOU HAVE TO HEAR THIS... THEO IMPALA – ‘ONLY YOU’

The Irish Times - Friday - The Ticket - - THE TAKE CRITICS’ CHOICE -

In 1984, Nigerian singer Steve Monite released a minor classic called Only You, a Afro-boogie disco funk track of desire which is embellished with a sharp bassline and lyrics that has the object of his affection flatter the singer’s own prowess - “Only you, Steve / can put out this fire / burning in my soul.” The song has been on the vinyl reissue merry-go-round of late and it’s now been covered in a smooth and faithful fashion by Tame Impala and the suave rapper Theophilus London (who are calling themselves Theo Impala).
