Burren in bloom
The Burren is always full of life but sometimes that life is hidden under the sprawling limestone and hazel that covers the land. When spring starts turning into summer, flushes of colour appear and that hidden life comes into full view.
Through a series of walks, talks, workshops and events, the Burren in Bloom festival allows families to explore the flora and fauna and to learn about its inhabitants. Running from May 18th to 30th, different events such as farm walks in the Burren Nature Sanctuary, will be taking place in different venues in north Clare and south Galway.
There’s a “Taste the Burren Herb Walk” on May 18th at Burren Nature Sanctuary, Cloonasee, Kinvara. Starting at 3pm the walk takes in a 50- acre organic farm featuring Burren habitats of shattered limestone, ancient woodland, disappearing lake and orchid rich grassland. There will be a herb pesto making demonstration and sample with savoury scones and seaweed garnish. Tickets: ¤ 10/¤ 5 for Burren Beo Trust members.
Co- ordinated by the Burrenbeo Trust and supported by the Heritage Council and local businesses, booking is required for some events. Find out more at burreninbloom. com
