The chemistry between Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks ( both above) was palpable in Sleepless In Seattle

( their second film together after Joe Versus the Volcano), so there’s no wonder that movie’s writerdirector, Nora Ephron, wanted to team them in this loose reworking of The Shop Around the Corner. Greg Kinnear, Parker Posey and Dabney Coleman also star in a tale concerning two rival bookstore owners who fall in love via email messages, little realising they know but dislike each other in real life.

Dr No

Sunday, RTÉ2, 5.15pm

The first James Bond movie is still one of the best, setting the template for much of what was to come. Sean Connery ( below) is suitably attractive and ruthless as Ian Fleming’s superspy who travels to the Caribbean to investigate the murder of a fellow agent, unearthing a criminal mastermind’s plot to wreck the American space programme. Ursula Andress makes a memorable love interest.

Cowboys & Aliens

Monday, TG4, 9.30pm

There’s a distinct chance that whoever dreamed up this movie thought of the title first. Perhaps during a brainstorming session they had a “eureka” moment, during which they shouted out, “Hey! That would be a great title,” and then wrote a screenplay to fit it. Not that that matters – Cowboys & Aliens is an enjoyable romp featuring a great cast headed by Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford. Set in a Wild West town, it follows the fortunes of a mysterious stranger suffering from amnesia who tries to help the local folk, a gang of outlaws and an Apache tribe fight back against alien invaders. Olivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell offer able support.
